Atmospheres

My paintings are about playing, having fun, listening to my intuition, being spontaneous and reaching a point of simplicity.  Investigating the idea of movement, space, rhythm and visual sounds.  Creating atmospheres with quirky shapes that remind me of floating, flying or moving very fast.  Referencing nature's organic life such as creatures moving in unison, bats in flight or a school of jellyfish.  The paintings are also about visual pleasure.  Stimulating the eye through the use of smooth and rough surfaces, metallic colors and black on white.  I enjoy pouring paint, building, manipulating, pushing, pulling and moving the paint into quirky shapes.  I desire to move the paint designing rhythmic atmospheres through the intuitive mark making of simple forms and lines.  These ideas are used to transmit movement and space, balancing intuition and knowledge, the playful approach of pushing paint into sensual textures and leaving traces of motion made by my body.  The development of ideas comes from my interest in the indigenous ways of expression and the carefree approach of children making art.  Childhood exposure to nature, fabric patterns, popular imagery, murals, and various musical styles have been participants in the concepts that motivate me to paint and draw.
