I am trying to make paintings that reconcile contradictory visual information, or aesthetics and yet retain them as distinct things at the same time.  The spacial information is ambiguous, as the paintings are covered with marks and color that make issue of the flatness of the canvas while at the same time create space.  There are also images in the paintings, which in turn are denied by working against their recognition by strategies like painting them out.  These paintings make issue of the tension between surface, paint, and illusion.  They are primarily abstract, though not purely.

I am especially interested in making work that is cool and distant, yet simultaneously romantic and sublime.
