"I find that I am constantly drawn to artwork that continuously changes and shifts my perception of what I am viewing. How will an artwork change if I look at it for twenty minutes versus just five? Does the artwork merit a viewer's attention longer than the typical once-over that most artworks receive in galleries and museums? Will a different angle or more specific lighting challenge my perception of the work? If I am catholic will my perception be one of sacrilege or piousness? It is to this end that I try to create works that will challenge the experience between viewer and art. Is a viewer's perception of reality, of what is actually in front of them; only the result of their experience? One minute a viewer may see something celestial or ephemeral, but with a second look their perception may change to embrace science or mysticism. It is this constant state of flux that propels me to make art that vacillates between formal elements and elements that can not be defined. My process is an attempt to address the ever-changing state of our perception. By working with oil, and acrylic and knowing that the two materials resist one another, I find that the process lends itself to this flux."
